Container City Miri

Container City commenced business almost 5 months ago amidst a great deal of publicity. Situated along North Yu Seng Road opposite Kingwood Boutique Hotel, it comprises 14 stalls constructed from shipping containers serving a large variety of food including some foreign cuisines.

I have been intending to drop by Container City for quite a while but I keep on postponing it after reading quite a lot of negative feedback on the food and service. And when I visit their Facebook page, I see that most of the 5-Star ratings were given by people who did not write any reviews. I do not attach much credibility to such ratings.

This afternoon I sent my car to Daisoon Machinery Sdn Bhd to have the front right tyre of my car mended as a small nail was embedded in it. While waiting for the tyre to be mended, I walked over to Container City just a stone throw away.

I ordered a coconut shake from the Tusan Ice Cream stall and then I took quite a lot of photos when I did a quick tour of the place. Tusan coconut ice cream and Tusan coconut shake are favourites of mine.

Container City has a lot going for it if it is well managed and if the food is good. It has a nice ambiance and is visually pleasing with quite a lot of artwork on the walls of the premises. It is a place worth a visit if you happen to be in Miri. However parking is a bit of a headache as it is situated in a busy commercial area.

Set in a rectangular layout with a high roof, Container City is comprised of two levels – the ground floor and upper deck. The walls of the upper deck feature superhero characters like Iron Man, Spiderman, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and The Incredible Hulk, painted by students from Riam Road Secondary School.

The stalls offer local fare like noodles, nasi kerabu, kebab, nasi lemak, nasi lelapan, nasi goreng, coconut ice creams as well as Western cuisine like pasta, steaks, chops and burgers, Korean food, Thai dishes and Taiwanese snacks. I have not tried any of the food so I cannot comment on the food.

The place comes alive at night with bright lights and lots of customers.  One of these days I will drop by at night to experience the ambiance there and to try out the food.
