Food Bazaar At Taman Selera Miri

I read from postings in Facebook that many of the food stalls at Food Bazaar at Taman Selera have commenced business. This evening, we dropped by at the Food Bazaar to try out the food.

The design of the Food Bazzar is quite eye-catching. It is just next to the Bay Resort Condominium built by Shin Yang.

We were not sure which stalls serve good food so we just settled for the Stall No. B8. We ordered the typical local offerings : fried chicken wings, salted egg pork, pork satay, fried bee hoon and fried mee. For drinks, I opt for ais kacang from Stall B3 Ah Lee ABC & Rojak while my wife and my son Leslie both chose fresh coconut drink from the same stall.

The fried chicken wings were just average and the pork satay did not live up to our expectations. We had tasted much tastier pork satay in Kuching. The salted egg pork was nothing to shout. The fried bee hoon was rather disappointing as it was rather lumpy. Only the fried noodles suited our taste.

The ais kacang was quite to my liking. The coconut milk with gula melaka does wonder to the taste. As for the fresh coconut drinks, my wife and my son had no complaints.

The view from the food bazaar was beautiful, especially the sunset. It is truly a great place to unwind after a hard day’s work. When we arrived at the place, there were very few customers but by the time we left, the place was starting to fill up.

By the way, I heard that the hawker style food bazaar actually opened for business on July 1. KFC and Pizza Hut had begun operations there a few months ago. Other brands like Angus Restaurant and Japanese food outlet Excapade Sushi are set to open soon.

The Food Bazaar is part of Phase One of the ambitious Taman Selera redevelopment. Completed after a period of two-and-a-half years, the conceptual Food Bazaar is environmentally-friendly, with LED lighting system and a design resembling a leaf with green as the main colour scheme.

In keeping with the history and heritage of Taman Selera and honouring the hawkers who have been operating their stalls in the area for many years, all the 16 former Taman Selera stall operators were invited to operate with eight new operators in the Food Bazaar.

Mirians are eagerly awaiting the most exciting phase of the development under which a man-made island, shaped like a seahorse, is set to become an architectural wonder. Using Dubai as a blueprint for the redevelopment master plan, it will transform the beach area into an ultramodern recreational, shopping, dining, entertainment and residential hub. It will put Miri on the tourist map, propelling the city towards the achievement of its goal as a resort city.

Located around 800 metres from Brighton Beach, the proposed island will incorporate recreational, commercial and residential areas. It is the brainchild of Dato David Goh, the managing director of Episo Group, and will be undertaken by Raffles Lifestyle Development Sdn Bhd, one of the companies in the Episo Group.
