Girl Tired, Anyone?

It seems as if slapping the word “girl” on a book title can guarantee the book to become a bestseller. Girl-driven thrillers are flying off the shelves and many have been adapted into movies. The book publishing industry has gone girl crazy.

Topping the list is Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy comprising of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest, that have sold in excess of 80 million copies worldwide. Unfortunately Larsson never had the chance to savour the fruits of his books’ success as his books were published posthumously.

Paula Hawkins was on the verge of bankruptcy and was contemplating giving up as a writer when her 2015 novel “The Girl on the Train” captivated readers worldwide and made her a multimillionaire. To date, the runaway bestseller has sold in excess of 20 million copies worldwide, making Hawkins one of the highest earning authors in the world.
