Goalkeeper Virgil Vries’ Gaffe Rated The Most Disastrous Goal

During  Thursday night’s  top-flight clash between the Golden Arrows and Amazulu in South Africa, Arrows defender Robyn Johannes thought he was playing it safe when he sent the ball back to keeper Virgil Vries.

Unfortunately the 20-year-old keeper screwed up spectacularly, completely missing the pass when under no pressure whatsoever, thereby conceding arguably the worst own goal of the season.

“That goal is gonna be on YouTube as the most disastrous goal!” fumed Golden Arrows coach Muhsin Ertugral.

Enjoy this video clip of what is possibly the worst keeper cock-up in history.

  1. Look, the goalie is an idiot but the fullback should really get better coaching.
Since you are a little child, coaches ALWAYS tell you that a back pass has to be dont on the OUTSIDE of the goals posts NEVER on the inside….. you know why? Juuuuuuust in case the keeper misses it (or more likely a bad field for 99% of players), the ball will go out of bounds.

Errors like the keepers happen, thats life but any good coach would pick out the back pass as the start of it all.
You can go your whole career without the ball going in the net like that but for 99% of football players, bad fields are a reality of football and coaches will non-stop remind defenceman to pass it back OUTSIDE the post on either side.
