I Am A Lucky Guy!

I am a lucky guy!

Lucky to have been born in Sarawak, the Land of the Hornbills where there had never been a need for 1Malaysia to instill racial harmony among the people. Laidback, peaceful and beautiful.

Lucky to have spent the first seventeen years of my life in Binatang (now Bintangor). Yes, the Animal Town where everybody seemed to know everybody. No computer, no video games, no Facebook, no Twitter, no smartphones. Where childhood was filled with so much innocent fun. Fun like swimming in the Rejang River, playing hide-and-seek and cops-and-robbers. And kampua mee was only 30 sen without meat and 50 sen with meat. And you felt rich if you had RM10 as a kid.

Lucky to have received my primary school education at St Augustine’s Primary School where the first seeds of Christianity were sowed in my mind. Lucky to have my late dad picking me up after school in his old Continental vintage car.

Lucky to have been a student of Kai Chung Middle School in Bintangor. Where great teachers inculcated in me the importance of education. Where friendship developed with fellow classmates and schoolmates has remained strong till today.

Lucky to have been chosen to further my Form Six studies at Kolej Tun Datuk Tuanku Haji Bujang (previously known as Tanjong Lobang College). The two years I spent at the boarding school away from my home for the first time in my life instilled in me a great sense of independence. And many friends from those two years have impacted my life in so many ways.

Lucky to have the chance to further my tertiary education in Canada thanks to my family. The slightly over two and a half years in Canada were the most amazing years and really opened up my mind.

Lucky to have worked during the earlier years of my career under Vincent Yeo Siew Hee from whom  I learned a lot about entrepreneurship. From a salesman who also did newspaper delivery when he first started out, he became a multi-millionaire and was awarded in September 2014 the Setia Bintang Sarawak (PSBS) award which carries the title ‘Dato’.

Lucky to have married a great woman who stood by me through thick and thin.

Lucky to have two great sons who have brought me so much joy and pride.

Lucky to have a great daughter-in-law who has been such a wonderful addition to our family.

Lucky to have the chance to work for the Ong family in Brunei where I accepted Jesus Christ into my life through the encouragement and guidance of my boss Stephen Ong. I picked up invaluable insights of entrepreneurship, philanthropy and balanced lifestyle from the family. I will always value the friendship of my ex-colleagues in Brunei and all those people who crossed paths with me during my ten years’ stay in Brunei.

Lucky to have some real friends in the truest sense of the word.

Lucky to have prevailed over the trials and tribulations that life had thrown at me, enabling me to emerge a stronger and better person.

Lucky to have been introduced to the joy of reading by my English teachers and my brother and sister.

Lucky to have made it to Ebay Powerseller and Top-Seller status during my stint as an Ebay seller about ten years ago. I harbour plans to revive my Ebay business in the very near future.

Lucky to have discovered the fun of blogging which is now providing me with lots of joy in my retirement. And if blogging can provide me with a stream of income in the months to come, that would be heaven-sent.

Lucky to have finally quit the corporate rat race.  I am enjoying my retirement.

Life is fun. You just have to count your blessings and don’t dwell on unhappy events. Always remember to take time off to smell the proverbial roses.
