Murmuration

Murmuration

Murmuration

Like a smudge in the distant sky,

A cloud of starlings fly,

As the cloud comes into close sights,

Watching it becomes a spellbinding delight.

The birds form a rising crescendo,

One minute like a raging tornado,

The next a colossal wisp of smoke,

The next a haze that seems to choke.

The birds swirl about with incredible grace and speed,

Without colliding with one another in an amazing feat,

Wildly whirling in pulses of enlargement and dimunution,

Veering here and there in unison.

It’s one of nature’s most spectacular displays,

Like thousands of ballerinas enacting a play,

The synchronicity is like poetry in motion,

The amazing avian behaviour aptly known as murmuration.

  1. Where did you catch this lovely sight Chin Yong? Amazing!.

  2. Sorry to disappoint you,Ramy. I did not personally see this. A few years ago, I saw an Youtube video on this and wrote a blog post about it. When I became interested in writing poems, I went back to some of my old blog posts and decided to write poems on some of the things that I wrote about in my blog.
