Who Will Win The Golden Boot Award In World Cup 2018?

With the World Cup entering the quarter-final stage with only 8 games left,  the Golden Boot race is heating up with England captain Harry Kane leading the pack of contenders.

The Golden Boot is awarded to the player who scores most goals in the tournament. In the event of a tie – such as in 1962 and 1994 – the winner is decided by assists, then minutes per goal.

The top 10 goal scorers so far are:

  • Harry Kane, England, 6 goals
  • Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal, 4 goals
  • Romelu Lukaku, Belgium, 4 goals
  • Edinson Cavani, Uruguay, 3 goals
  • Denis Cheryshev, Russia, 3 goals
  • Diego Costa, Spain, 3 goals
  • Artem Dzyuba, Russia, 3 goals
  • Kylian Mbappe, France, 3 goals
  • Yerry Mina, Colombia, 3 goals
  • Edinson Cavani, Uruguay, 3 goals

With Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Costa and Yerry Mina out of contention, the race has been narrowed down to 7 contenders.

In World Cup 2014 Colombia’s James Rodriguez  won the coveted award with just six goals. It is highly likely that his tally will be beaten in this World Cup.

With 6 goals so far, Harry Kane is on course to become England’s first winner of the Golden Boot since Gary Lineker in 1986.

I am personally rooting for Kane. And who knows, England may surprise everyone and win the World Cup!
