A Visit To A Bakam Farm

I called my brother Chin Tian this morning to find out whether he knows which school one of my Form 6 classmates is attached to. Another college mate Jessie Goh has informed me that the classmate is teaching in Miri. As my brother used to be a school principal in Miri, I thought he may know. Unfortunately my brother does not know the whereabouts of my classmate. I am trying to contact her to ask her to join our Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang Year 1975-1976 reunion scheduled for January 23 , 2016.

My brother then told me that he was waiting for his good friend John Jong to pick him for a visit to John’s farm in Bakam area. I jumped at the opportunity of going to the farm to take photos.

We went to the farm at about 10.20 am and stayed there for about two hours. We plucked and ate cempedak, langsat and rambutans. I even climbed up a rambutan tree, bringing back memories of my childhood in Bintangor where I used to climb the rambutan trees in my dad’s orchard. There were a few durians on a durian tree but we did not pluck that as they were not ripe yet. My brother found one ripe durian on the ground.

The weather was hot and there were lots of mosquitoes. John plucked three coconuts and we enjoyed the refreshing coconut water and the young coconut flesh.

I had a good time roaming the farm taking photos. One of the dogs belonging to the neighbouring farm kept on barking at me as I roamed the farm. It seemed to be trying to intimidate me, often getting within a couple of yards from me, barking ferociously. Its bark is worse than its bite so I was not scared of it. Apart from rambutan, durian, langsat, coconut and cempedak trees, there were also passion fruit, pomelo, banana, talap and papaya trees and some nice flowers.

I was most happy to be able to photograph some butterflies, including a very beautiful yellow butterfly with an intricate design. Looking at its wings, I seem to see the word “Sibu” on its left wing….it also looks like the number 8180. The right wing seems to have the number 0818. Hey, 4D punters, better “pow” 8180 this weekend, hahaha!

The beautiful butterfly...look at the markings on its wing for 4D inspirations, haha!

Thank you John for the opportunity to visit your farm and for the fruits!
