Tell Me A Lie By CJ Carver

Having really enjoyed CJ Carver’s Spare Me the Truth, I started reading Tell Me a Lie with great expectations. I wasn’t disappointed for it is a solid A-grade thriller with lots of high-octane action and adrenalin rush.

The Calder family in England is massacred, with the father Adrian left holding the shotgun. It seems to be an open and shut case for the police. When PC Lucy Davies digs deeper into this case, she finds that not everything is what it seems to be.  She is puzzled by FSB operatives taking an interest in the case while bodies are dropping all over the country.

Dan Forrester, still suffering from his patchy amnesia, is looking forward to spend time with his wife Jenny and daughter Aimee when his former boss in the Security Services requests him to travel to Russia to meet with a sleeper agent who insists on meeting Dan only. Dan has no idea who he can trust. But when his cover is blown, he realises that he is on his own

An aging oligarch in Siberia gathers his henchmen to talk about an English accountant.

All the above become embroiled in a conspiracy that goes back to the horrors of Stalinist Russia, and which has spread across the globe.

When Dan’s wife is spirited away he knows he has to keep his daughter safe, find his wife and protect his unborn child and wife. But how do you protect your family when you can’t remember who’s hunting them?

It is when Dan and Lucy realise that their cases are linked that they can work together to try to solve the puzzle.

This is a thriller that keeps you on tenterhooks all the way through to the end. Highly recommended!
