The Best Laksa In Miri

CNN Travel ranked Penang Assam Laksa 7th out of the 50 most delicious food in the world. And I think that is because CNN hasn’t tried Sarawak laksa!

Sarawak laksa is a unique Sarawakian dish of beehoon (rice vermicelli) in a fragrant soup made from a base of chicken soup, sambal belacan, sour tamarind, garlic, galangal, lemon grass and coconut milk, topped with prawns, shredded chicken slices, julienned omelette, bean sprouts and fresh coriander. It is usually served with a squeeze of lime and sambal belacan on the side. Sarawak laksa is actually very different from curry laksa as the soup contains no curry at all.

I am not a laksa aficionado but my wife and a lot of my family members are staunch fans of the dish. My wife and I have tried all of the well-known Sarawak laksa stalls in Miri and we arrive at our conclusion that the Sarawak laksa at Sin Foh Café Co is the BEST in Miri.

Sin Foh Cafe

The coffeeshop is decorated with a lot of model planes and is owned by none other than the family of the famous MC Jeff. In case you don’t know where this shop is, just drive along Krokop 1 towards Krokop 2.  It is the first corner shop of the row of two-storey shophouses near the Miri River.

My wife, my son Leslie and I dropped by Sin Foh again this morning for breakfast. My wife and I ordered Kuching laksa but we asked them not to add bean sprouts and coriander while Leslie ordered mee kolok and dry wan tan. As usual, the laksa tasted great! Leslie’s kolok mee and dry wan tan were not bad too.

So if you have never tried the laksa at Sin Foh, do drop by the shop. No, I am not getting paid by Sin Foh Cafe to write this, haha!

P/S. The current Sarawak laksa stall at Sin Foh is no longer the one that I rated as the best in Miri. I don’t know where the previous stall owner have shifted to. I have tried the new laksa stall at Sin Foh once and I have never been back there as I did not like the laksa.
