Paradise Lost

Paradise

Paradise

I dreamed of paradise

Filled with things so beautiful

Exotic birds

That sang so melodiously

Colourful flowers

That sent their fragrance afar

Butterflies with intricate designs

That danced in joy from flowers to flowers

Misty forests

That welcomed me with their cool embrace

Delicious fruits

That thrilled my taste buds

Air so pure

That revitalized my lungs

People so kind

That I could feel their love

Then I awoke with a start

I found out that I ain’t in paradise

I am in a country where things now look so gloomy

For my Malaysia I weep

The racial rift has become so deep

I pray that good sense will prevail

Don’t let our nation be derailed.

  1. Lovely vehicle used to convey the sorry state of Malaysia, supposedly a national paradise in 2020. Will the people believe in 2030?

    • Thank you, Tingang. I wrote this just now after I came home from dinner. It took me about 15 minutes to finish it but I am not sure whether I have violated any structuring principles of writing poems.
